The midfielder previously represented Colombia at two World Cups, 2016 Olympics
Washington, D.C. (07/05/2024) – Washington Spirit midfielder Leicy Santos has been named to the Colombian Women’s National Team’s 18-player roster for this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris, the Colombian Football Federation announced today. She previously represented Las Cafeteras at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
As part of Group A in this summer’s tournament, Colombia will face Canada, New Zealand and host nation France in group play. Colombia’s group stage matches will take place in Lyon and Nice.
Santos has appeared in over 50 international matches, representin Colombia in two FIFA Women’s World Cups (2015 and 2023) after making her senior national team debut in 2014. In 2015, her Colombian side became the first Spanish-speaking country in history to advance out of the group stage at a FIFA Women’s World Cup. At the 2023 tournament, Santos scored one of the most memorable goals of the competition with a lob over back-to-back Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper winner Mary Earps and eventual tournament runner-up England.

• vs France, Thursday, July 25 at 3 p.m. EDT (Stade de Lyon, Décines-Charpieu)
• vs New Zealand, Sunday, July 28 at 11 a.m. EDT (Stade de Lyon, Décines-Charpieu)
• vs Canada, Wednesday, July 31 at 3 p.m. EDT (Stade de Nice, Nice)
In April, the Spirit announced Santos would join the team on a three-year contract at the conclusion of her Liga F season with Atlético Madrid. She made over 100 appearances for the Spanish club, notching 17 goals and 16 assists. In 2023, Santos and Atlético Madrid won Copa de la Reina over crosstown rival, Real Madrid.
