Washington, D.C. (08/11/2022) – The Washington Spirit was awarded by Mayor Bowser and Serve DC, the Mayor’s Office on Volunteerism and Partnerships, with the Spirit of Service Award last weekend. The Spirit received this honor in the category of Public-Private Partnership: Achievement in Collaboration Award. The award was presented to captain Tori Huster at Mayor Bowser’s Community Celebration Day on Saturday, August 6, 2022.
This award celebrates the Spirit’s ongoing community work centered on addressing the District’s most critical social challenges and priorities. “We were honored to present the Public-Private-Partnership: Achievement In Collaboration Award to the leading ladies at the Washington Spirit this Saturday at Mayor Muriel Bowser’s 2022 Spirit of Service Awards Community Celebration Day,” said Alexis L. Squire, Chief Service Officer, Director, the Mayor’s Office on Volunteerism and Partnerships.
“The Spirit embodies service through its work and we look forward to cultivating our partnerships to create real impact within our city.” In order to be nominated for this award, the Spirit demonstrated an outstanding commitment to service and/or volunteerism within the District of Columbia, influenced and addressed a community need, enhanced the quality of life for District residents, embraced community service and volunteerism as an ongoing commitment and demonstrated exemplary acts of civic engagement, care and kindness.
Held annually, the Spirit of Service Awards is a celebration of those who serve DC’s legacy by connecting people through service with purpose. Those nominated range from residents to community organizations to businesses. In 2020, the Washington Area Community Investment Fund was honored with the Public-Private Partnership Award for its efforts to increase equity and opportunity within both its workplace and the community, specifically by aiding small businesses with financial relief and resources.
The Washington Spirit will return to action on Saturday, August 27 at 8:30 p.m. EST against the Houston Dash at PNC Stadium. The game will be available to stream on Paramount+.
