Native to Bozeman, Montana, Averie Collins landed with the Spirit after attending Stanford and Washington State. Prior to college, Averie attended Bozeman High School where she led the Hawks to a state championship and earned three state player of the year awards. In three seasons with the Stanford Cardinal, Averie tallied ten goals, five assists and one national championship while appearing in 57 matches. Upon transferring to Washington State for her senior season, Averie recorded another six goals and five assists in 24 starts en route to a Third Team All-Pac-12 selection. Fresh off making her first appearance with the Spirit in almost two years, our favorite Big Sky baller answered some of our hardest-hitting questions.

How old were you when you started playing soccer?

Abby Wambach

Do you have a nickname?

What’s your dream car?

Ooh, my dream car’s probably a convertible. Any kind, as long as the tarp comes down.

Is there a reason behind your jersey number?

I chose ‘8’ because it represents balance and harmony. That’s my word of the year: balance.

What TV shows are you watching right now?

I just finished Stranger Things and I started The Handmaid’s Tale, it’s crazy. Some of my teammates put me on that one.

What movie can you quote from start to finish?

I’m not a big movie person.

What’s your least favorite food?

I don’t know if there’s a food I don’t like but maybe cherry tomatoes. I would eat them but they’re maybe my least favorite.

Maybe the smirky face 😏 or like the tongue-out eyes one 🤪.

Party in the U.S.A. by Miley Cyrus

Money is no object, you can live anywhere in the world, where will you be?

Barcelona… ¡Barthelona!

Early bird

I majored in engineering but my favorite subject was probably psychology or art.

What is your favorite season?

Spring, I love seeing the flowers bloom.

How did it feel to come back and finally return to the field after your injury a year and a half ago?

It’s great!  It’s been a long year and I’ve learned a lot about myself, but it feels good to be back and see my hard work pay off. I’m so thankful for all the people who helped get me here.

What would you say your personal goals for the rest of the year are?

My goals are just to continue building off each performance and do whatever I can to help the team win and be successful.
