In the midst of a three-game losing streak, the Washington Spirit head to Houston to take on the 8th place Dash. The Spirit will enter Saturday evening’s match 6-7-1, having recently fallen to 5th place in the league. The Dash are 4-8-1. Kick off will be at 9 pm ET at BBVA Compass Stadium.
The Spirit are riding a rough wave of late. Dropping their last three matches and producing just two goals in their last four games, they are in need of offensive production. Look for this to be the match for coach Mark Parsons to utilize the new acquisitions the club has made. During the 6-1 loss to the Portland Thorns last week, the Spirit saw the debut of three new players Niki Cross, Alex Singer and Lisa DeVanna. Also, with national team players, including Ashlyn Harris, back and a rested Ali Krieger, this match against the Dash looks to be the perfect place for the Spirit to bounce back strong.
The Dash are coming off a lengthy rest. Their last match was a June 14th loss to FC Kansas City, 2-1. The Dash were beaten on a goal in extra time. The long two weeks of rest should serve Houston nicely, especially if the weather report holds up. Saturday projects to be another 90+ degree day in Texas.
It’s been tough going lately for the Spirit. To get points they need to keep pace in the playoff race, the Spirit need to improve starting Saturday. The Spirit would get a boost with a goal from Jodie Taylor or Diana Matheson, who sit 4th and 5th respectively in total goals scored in the NWSL.
The Spirit look to snap their three-game losing streak when they face the Houston Dash Saturday evening at 9m at the BBVA Compass Stadium.
