Dear Spirit Investors,
I hope your 2025 is off to a fantastic start! As I celebrate my one-year anniversary as CEO this month, I’m filled with immense gratitude to Michele and each of you for entrusting me with leading the business operations of this remarkable organization. Looking back, the progress we’ve made together has been extraordinary, and I’m even more excited about where we’re headed in 2025.
Speaking of Michele, she was featured in several prominent publications last month, including The Athletic, Sports Business Journal, Washington Business Journal, and SportsPro Media on their 2024 “Most Influential” lists. Her personal commitment and investment in women’s sports continues to be recognized as a catalyst for the industry’s unprecedented growth.
With the 2025 NWSL preseason kicking off on January 20th, the energy around the club is electric now. Although Washington’s winter weather keeps us indoors, our team will travel to Florida to prepare for another thrilling season. Though this marks the NWSL’s first year without the college draft, General Manager Mark Krikorian has once again demonstrated his exceptional eye for talent by signing standout collegiate players Deborah Abiodun and Emma Gaines-Ramos, as well as free agent Narumi Miura. More signings are expected as we have open roster slots at the time of this writing.
In the coming weeks, we’ll announce our 2025 NWSL schedule. Additionally, the Spirit has been invited to compete in the CONCACAF Women’s Champions Cup – a prestigious tournament featuring top clubs from Canada, United States, Central America, and the Caribbean. It is a pathway for clubs to qualify for the FIFA 2026 Women’s Club World Cup.
As I reflect on the past year, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together, but I truly believe the best is yet to come for the Washington Spirit. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to building something special here in the nation’s capital.
Here’s to another remarkable year ahead!
Best regards,
Kim
