Washington, D.C., (05/12/2022) – The Washington Spirit has signed midfielder/forward Maddie Elwell to the active roster effective Thursday, May 12, the club announced today. The contract term is for the remainder of the 2022 season with an option for 2023.
A native of Ambler, Pennsylvania, Maddie attended Vanderbilt University from 2017 to 2022 before being drafted with the 15th overall pick in the 2022 NWSL Draft. Elwell scored 12 goals and assisted on another 29 for the Commodores in her five seasons in Nashville. Elwell also earned Second Team All-SEC honors in each of her final three seasons at Vanderbilt.
After finishing as the runner-up in the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup, the Washington Spirit will host Angel City FC in the team’s second regular season match on Sunday, May 15 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. Following the match, Washington will head west to take on Portland Thorns FC and OL Reign on Wednesday, May 18 and Sunday, May 22, respectively.
