Juneteenth is a time for celebration, reflection, and hope for the future. This year, the Washington Spirit and The Gathering Spot brought our community together for a meaningful conversation about the significance of Juneteenth and its roots in DC’s rich Black culture.
The evening was filled with joy, learning, and an electric energy that left everyone inspired. We explored ways to create positive change while fostering unity, discussed the importance of using our voices and voting, and recognized how each of our stories contributes to the broader narrative of American history.
Moderated by Tierra Stewart, the discussion featured panelists Angela Tate, Mary Elliott, and Lafayette Barnes. These incredible individuals, representing DC Scores, The National Museum of African American History and Culture, and The Washington Informer and Bridge, respectively, shared their insights and experiences, adding depth to our understanding of Juneteenth.
After the panel, we enjoyed intimate conversations, delicious food, and drinks in the inviting space of The Gathering Spot. It was a night of connection and celebration, reminding us all of the power of community and how our rich culture makes us stronger.
Thank you to Angela Tate, Lafayette Barnes, and Mary Elliott for speaking on Juneteenth and Black culture in DC!
We hope to continue these conversations to better our communities👏 pic.twitter.com/N0qB0mBbu1
