Forward Brittany Ratcliffe joined the Spirit via free agency this past off-season. When she’s not busy scoring goals on the pitch, she’s involved in Spirit community initiatives across the DMV.

Q: What’s been your favorite event so far?

“My favorite event so far has been the Ashley Hatch x DC Scores Adult Soccer Camp that we did earlier this year.  It was my first community event with the Spirit, so that made it memorable, but it was also the first time I had done a camp with adults, and it was a really cool experience.  I’ve always worked with kids, and they’re always so fun to work with,  but it was really cool to see adults come out and not only buy into the drills we were doing, but also have a great time doing something they don’t regularly do. There were some people who had played in college and some people who had never touched a soccer ball in their life!  It was a really fun event and we got to meet a lot of really cool people.”

Q: Being new to a team, what did you get out of jumping into community events right away?

“I find that community events make the connection you have to the city twice as strong, and it makes you feel like you are a part of something bigger. Being involved in the community helps you to understand the unique nuances that make the DC area and the Washington Spirit fans so special.  You may come across lifelong fans or people that want to come to their first Spirit game, and while each experience may be different, it’s cool to learn more about the place you represent.”

Q: What are you looking forward to doing more of?

“I’m looking forward to not only doing more community events, but events that are different from ones I’ve done before. I want to experience the variety DC has to offer and learn about its people and their stories.”
