The U.S. will play China in two international friendly matches hosted in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Frisco, Texas
Washington, D.C. (11/20/2023) – Three Washington Spirit players have been called up to the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) to participate in international friendly matches against China early next month, U.S. Soccer announced today. Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury and forwards Ashley Hatch and Trinity Rodman will report to national team training next week.
Rodman is the most experienced USWNT call-up from the trio with 26 caps, tallying six goals and three assists for the U.S. In the USWNT’s past five friendlies, Rodman has tallied four goals: a brace in the squad’s 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup sendoff match against Wales in July before scoring in each of the U.S.’s two friendlies against South Africa in September. Hatch has made the second-most appearances for the U.S. with 21, notching five goals and one assist in the process. Kingsbury recorded a clean sheet in her lone appearance for the USWNT in April 2022. Together, the group has a combined 48 appearances, 11 goals, four assists and one clean sheet.
The USWNT will travel to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Frisco, Texas to play China in friendlies on December 2 and December 5. The two fixtures will be played at DRV PNK Stadium and Toyota Stadium, home of MLS’s Inter Miami CF and FC Dallas, respectively. Saturday, December 2’s friendly will be broadcast on TNT while Tuesday, December 5’s matchup will be broadcast on truTV. Both matches will also be broadcast on NBC Universo and stream on Max and Peacock.
During the 2023 regular season, the Spirit duo of Hatch and Rodman combined for 14 goals and four assists. Hatch was also one of just three Spirit players to start in all 22 regular season matches this year. In goal, Kingsbury started 20 matches in goal, earning four clean sheets this season.
The Spirit will be back in action in 2024 with all home matches once again being played at Audi Field. In total, Washington hosted almost 120,000 fans across the club’s 11 regular season home matches in 2023, averaging nearly 11,000 in attendance per home match. Fans can secure their tickets to all home matches next season with a season membership.
