Leesburg, VA., (05/25/21) – Jamaica Women’s National Team Head Coach Hubert Busby Jr. has named Spirit goalkeeper Sydney Schneider and midfielder Chinyelu Asher to the roster for the team’s upcoming matches during the US Women’s National Team’s Summer Series from June 10-13.

The Reggae Girlz will play two friendly matches as part of the series, hosted in the United States. Jamaica will open the Summer Series against Nigeria on June 10 in Houston, TX (5:30 p.m. ET/4:30 CT) — it will be the first-ever meeting between the two nations. Next up for Jamaica will be the third all-time meeting with the USWNT on June 13 in Houston (10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT on FoxSports1).

The Spirit selected Sydney Schneider with the 29th overall pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft. While the UNC Wilmington product has yet to appear for the Spirit in a competitive match, she is currently the most experienced goalie on Jamaica’s active roster, having been capped a total of 18 times. Schneider was a part of the Reggae Girlz’ 2019 World Cup squad; she was named the starting goalie for the first two matches of the competition. Schneider also represented Jamaica at the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship.

Chinyelu Asher, who was a National Team Replacement Player for the Spirit during the Challenge Cup and has trained with the Spirit ever since, returns to the Reggae Girlz as one of the most experienced players on the provisional roster. Only two players — Sashana Campbell and Khadija Shaw — have won more caps than Asher’s 27. She logged her first and only minutes with the Spirit as a second-half substitute in the opening contest of the 2021 Challenge Cup presented by Secret against North Carolina. Asher also spent time with the Washington Spirit Reserves in 2018.
