Boyds, MD., (2/18/20) – Washington Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe kept her seventh clean sheet of the W-League season as Sydney FC got the best of Sam Staab and the Western Sydney Wanderers in the second Sydney Derby of the year. Spirit forward Crystal Thomas was also in action for the Perth Glory in their big win over Brisbane.
Bledsoe was once again infallible between the sticks for the Sky Blues, as she collected her league-leading seventh clean sheet. Bledsoe had light work as Sydney FC controlled the majority of the attacking play. Bledsoe made one save and claimed one cross on her way to three points and second position on the W-League table.
Staab was busy as a short-handed Western Sydney felt the heat of the Sydney FC attack for a majority of the game. Staab made a team-leading 57 touches on the ball and attempted 43 passes, second-highest on the team. Staab repelled a number of Sydney FC attacks, winning four duels, making three clearances and stealing three interceptions.
Meanwhile, in Perth, Thomas and the Glory pulled an upset against fifth-ranked Brisbane in a big 4-2 win. Thomas was crucial in the match, as she picked up a goal and an assist. Thomas’s Goal of the Week nominated strike came in the 12th minute as she got onto the end of a long ball, taking one touch before lofting a shot over Brisbane keeper Mackenzie Arnold who was off her line.
