Boyds, MD., (2/7/20) – Washington Spirit midfielder Rose Lavelle netted the United State’s Women’s National Team’s first goal in their 4-0 win over at Dignity Health Sports Arena in Carson, California last Friday night. Spirit midfielder Andi Sullivan was also an option from the bench.
Lavelle found the back of the net in the 5th minute after receiving the ball at the top of the box, dribbling around two Mexico defenders, then rifling a powerful left-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Lavelle played 76 minutes before exiting for Lindsay Horan, completing 44 passes and adding a steal to go with her goal. The midfielder’s opening goal proved to be the decider in the match as the US kept their fourth clean sheet of the tournament, continuing a perfect defensive record. With the win, the USWNT both advanced to the finals of the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament and secured their spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The USWNT will take on Canada in the final on Sunday at 6 pm ET (FS2, TUDN).
This marks the seventh consecutive time that the USWNT have qualified for the Olympics. The US is sporting a record of 22-0-1 all-time in Olympic Qualifying and has scored 118 goals while allowing three. The US is also unbeaten in their last 27 games heading into the final.
