Boyds, Md., (7/2/19) – Defender Tori Huster has no shortage of experience in the NWSL or with the Spirit. The seventh-year team veteran has been with Washington since the league’s inaugural season, and played her 10,000th career NWSL minute earlier this year.

Perhaps the best example of her experience and versatility is the fact that she has logged time in every outfield position for the Spirit over the course of her career.

This season, with the Spirit off to its best start in years, Huster has focused her energies on the right back position. Washington has allowed just seven goals in its first ten games, tied for the lowest total in the league, and Huster’s 765 minutes of work have been critical to that effort. The 29-year old has tallied 25 clearances, nine blocks and 13 interceptions as the Spirit have ascended to first place.

Huster is one of many Spirit players with excellent passing statistics this season. She has attempted 453 total passes, completing them at a rate of 78.8% in the defensive half.

Crosses have been an especially important part of Huster’s game this year given her wide position, and she led the Spirit with four open play crosses on June 22 against the Houston Dash.

As Huster’s touch map and heat map from the Houston game shows, she spent her time mainly patrolling the right sideline, but didn’t always stay in a defensive position. Her trademark versatility helped her attack down the right side when needed, and her average field position for the match ended up being nearly at midfield. Her influence helped the Spirit stay on the front foot throughout the match, finishing with 64% possession and outshooting the Dash, 12-5.

With the Spirit hanging tough in the NWSL playoff picture, Huster will look to continue her consistency, whether it be at right back or anywhere else she might be needed.

The Spirit will be back in action in Florida this Saturday when they visit the Orlando Pride.[TICKETS]
