After Red Stars defender Arin Wright sent a cross in the box from the right side, Spirit keeper Aubrey Bledsoe was able to get a hand on it to prevent the header, but the deflection fell to Red Stars midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo. DiBernardo shot the ball for what would have been the Red Stars first goal of the game, but thanks to an incredible effort, Nielsen was able to head the ball off the line, saving a sure goal and keeping the score level at 0-0 early in the game.
