Boyds, Md. (September 1, 2018) – Washington Spirit midfielder Rose Lavelle and Mallory Pugh each played an entire half for the U.S. Women’s National Team on Friday night in a 3-0 win over Chile at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.
Lavelle earned her 12th international cap on the night, starting the match and playing the first half as the USA took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Pugh entered to open the second half, and less than 15 minutes later, she recorded her 13th career assist and second of 2018. [+Full Recap]
Pugh notched an assist on the third goal of the night, setting up a Christen Press score in the 59th minute. On the play, Pugh received the ball from Morgan Brian on the right side and ran all the way to the end line before sending a low-cutter through the middle of the box. The ball rolled to Press, who found herself in the perfect spot to roof her shot from a tough angle and tally her 45th career goal.
The USA will head to Northern California for the second of this two-game series vs. Chile on Sept. 4 (7 p.m. PT; ESPN2, UDN) at Avaya Stadium in San Jose. That match will be the final one for the U.S. WNT before entering World Cup qualifying, which the begins on Oct. 4 in Cary, N.C.
