The Washington Spirit announced today that forward Renae Cuellar will miss the next 4-6 weeks of the NWSL season due to a partial meniscus tear in her right knee.
In the upcoming weeks, Cuellar will have an arthroscopic procedure and she is expected to make a full recovery. Cuellar should be back in time to join Mexico for their Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign in October.
“Renae has worked as hard as anyone else in our squad all season and I know she will continue that work ethic in her quick recovery from this injury,” Washington Spirit general manager and coach Mark Parsons said. “It is disappointing to lose her at an important time for the club, but we fully expect her to be back strong soon.”
Acquired in the offseason in a trade with Seattle Reign FC, Cuellar has made ten appearances for the Spirit this season, including four starts.
The Spirit are in action again next Wednesday, July 30 when they host FC Kansas City at the Maryland SoccerPlex at 7pm ET. For ticket information, please visit www.WashingtonSpirit.com.
