Boyd, Md. (June 18, 2013) – Washington Spirit players Ali Krieger, Robyn Gayle and Diana Matheson are preparing to play in a pair of international friendly matches this week, with Gayle and Matheson taking the field for Canada against  Germany on Wednesday and Krieger suiting up for the U.S. against Korea Republic on Thursday.

Gayle and Matheson are in Paderborn, Ger. as they look to help Canada rebound from a 3-0 loss to the  No. 1-ranked U.S. in their most recent match. The Canadians continue a challenging 2013 schedule as they take on No. 2-ranked Germany, their fifth straight match against a top 10 team.

Krieger and the U.S. Women will face Korea Republic for a second time in a span of five days when they square off Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.  Krieger came on as a 70th minute substitute on the back line for captain Rachel Buehler in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Korea. Thursday’s match will be televised on NBC Sports Network.

All three Spirit players called up for international competition this week will return to the team in time to travel to Kansas City this weekend. The trio missed Washington’s 2-0 loss to Western New York last Saturday night for national team training.

The Spirit will face FC Kansas City for the first time this season on Sunday at 4:10 p.m. ET at Shawnee Mission North HS. Kansas City is in fourth place with a 5-4-1 record, its most recent match a 3-1 loss to the Chicago Red Stars on June 16.

Sunday’s Spirit-FC Kansas City match will stream live on the NSWL YouTube channel.
