Reigning NWSL Champion Gotham FC travels to DC to face the Spirit on a special “Kicking Women’s Cancer Day,” presented by Inova

Washington, D.C. (04/16/2024) – The Washington Spirit honors Kicking Women’s Cancer Day as the team faces off against NJ/NY Gotham FC this Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. Fans should arrive in black as the Spirit looks to “Black Out” Audi Field in this nationally televised match on CBS.

This season, the Spirit will offer enhanced entertainment options and amenities to fans to create an unforgettable atmosphere from the moment gates open until well after the final whistle blows.

Upon entry to Audi Field, every fan will receive a yellow mini scarf to wave during the match. Throughout the stadium, there will also be “Kicking Women’s Cancer” signs with an area to write who you are standing with in the fight against women’s cancer.  At all games this season, fans can expect to receive a matchday program featuring game-specific information, articles about players, and more about the Washington Spirit.

From pregame to postgame, the Spirit and game presenting sponsor, Inova, are partnering to recognize and honor those impacted by cancer. On the concourse, Inova will host an activation that will include spin-to-win prize giveaways and a selfie backdrop. At the Community Zone on the north side of the stadium, several community partners will share how they are actively engaged in the fight against cancer: Colorectal Cancer Alliance, Craig Willinger Fund, Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Nueva Vida.

On the field before the match, the Spirit will honor Melissa Kirk as the game’s honorary captain. Additionally, at 12:45 p.m. fans will be instructed to raise their “Kicking Women’s Cancer” signs as the crowd takes a collective moment of silence to honor those fighting a battle with cancer. Just outside of the stadium, Sandlot Bar will open for fans prior to the match as well.

The concourse will be lively again this Saturday with Crush Funk Band, an energetic and infectious DC-based brass band group, holding down the Spirit Stage prior to the match. ESPN Radio 630 returns to the concourse with a chance to win a custom Washington Spirit jersey.

Also on the concourse, Spiritville returns for another exciting season with EAFC stations, allowing fans to play as their favorite Spirit players. The kid’s zone, where the youngest fans can safely play on a soft play area or enjoy foosball, will also feature face painters.

Make sure you are back to your seats before the start of the second half as the Spirit will be making a special announcement.

After the match, Andi Sullivan will be honored for reaching 100 regular season appearances on April 12 against Houston. One of the Spirit team captains this season, Sullivan becomes just the fourth player to reach 100 appearances with the Spirit, joining Spirit legend Tori Huster and teammates Aubrey Kingsbury and Ashley Hatch.
