Washington, D.C. (03/03/22) – The Washington Spirit have re-signed defender Kelley O’Hara to a one-year deal. This deal comes at the conclusion of the US allocated contracts following the 2021 season.
In her first year in Washington, O’Hara started 15 of the 17 games she appeared in, recording a total of 1,410 minutes. The Stanford grad had a 76.5 percent passing success rate, including 81.1 percent passing accuracy in the defensive half of the field. She recorded her 100th NWSL cap against OL Reign in October. Her most notable moment from the 2021 season came in the opening minutes of extra time in the NWSL Championship game where she headed home a cross from Trinity Rodman to help the Spirit secure the 2-1 victory.
Head Coach Kris Ward had this to say about the re-signing: “Bringing Kelley back was not only important for our backline, but for our team as a whole. She has an energy about her that lifts everyone to be their best every day and it makes us all better.”
For the USWNT in 2021, O’Hara was named to the Tokyo Olympic team where the US took home bronze. O’Hara started eight matches in the calendar year, including five in the Olympics.
