Boyds, MD., (11/24/20) – The Washington Spirit is teaming up with CVS Health, the club’s official health and wellness partner, to host Empower You, a two-part virtual series that will educate youth between the ages of 12-18 on the importance of full-body wellness. The Dec.3 session will focus on mind and body health and wellness and the Dec. 10 session will focus on the dangers of vaping. Each hour-long session includes a panel discussion and breakout sessions.
CVS Senior Vice President of Government and Public Affairs Melissa Schulman stated: “People of all ages are facing great challenges in maintaining their health and well-being, both physically and mentally during the pandemic. Our collaborative series is timely and critical, providing teenagers with the information they need on how to stay active at home and understanding the importance of nutrition. Having real conversations about mental health issues is the first step in breaking the stigma, building supportive connections and finding solutions.”
On Dec. 3, Aetna Mindfulness Instructor Stephanie Giacco will join Spirit High Performance Director Michael Minthorne and Captain Tori Huster. The session will allow participants to learn about the importance of maintaining whole body health in mind, body and spirit. Topics will include how proper nutrition fuels better on-field performance and how to embrace inner strengths to project confidence and positivity to the world. Participants also will be introduced to concepts on mindfulness, learn about the importance of good nutrition and work to build a sense of confidence to embrace what makes each person unique.
The Dec. 10 session will be led by the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids In this session participants will learn out to kick the stress and pressure of vaping. Spirit goalkeeper Devon Kerr will join Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids National Youth Ambassadors Allyssa Williams, Madison Sites and Eunice Namkoong. This session is designed to provide resources to stay tobacco free, educate participants about the harms associated with vaping and to provide alternative stress relief efforts.
“It’s important to give young people the resources and insight they need so they can take care of their mind, body and spirit,” said Spirit Chief Communications Officer Nicole Hawkins. “During what has been a challenging time, we are grateful to CVS Health for partnering with us to empower young people to manage their whole body health and wellness.”
