Kingsbury, Rodman, Sanchez and Sullivan will represent the United States in Australia and New Zealand
Washington, D.C. (06/21/2023) – Four Washington Spirit players have been named to the U.S. Women’s National Team’s (USWNT) 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup roster. Goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury, forward Trinity Rodman and midfielders Ashley Sanchez and Andi Sullivan will all take part in their first World Cup this summer in Australia and New Zealand.
Sullivan is the most experienced USWNT call-up from the Spirit with 44 senior team caps. Sullivan, Sanchez and Rodman have combined for eight goals and 12 assists across 95 total appearances. Kingsbury returns to the USWNT for the first time since last summer’s Concacaf W Championship in Mexico. In her lone appearance for the U.S., Kingsbury earned a clean sheet against Uzbekistan in April 2022.
Through the first 12 matches of the 2023 NWSL regular season, the Spirit’s four USWNT call-ups have combined for 48 starts and over 4,200 minutes of playing time. The side’s three field players have totaled seven goals and two assists while Kingsbury has tallied three clean sheets and 33 saves, taking her to 29 clean sheets and 396 saves on her career.
The USWNT will play one final friendly against Wales at PayPal Park in San Jose, California on July 9 before making the trip to Oceania to begin its World Cup campaign. The friendly will kick off at 4 p.m. EDT and broadcast on TNT and stream on Peacock.
