Washington, D.C., (06/15/2022) – Anna Heilferty has earned her first call-up to the United States Under-23 Women’s Youth National Team, U.S. Soccer announced today. This will be Heilferty’s first time competing with a U.S. Women’s National Team since training with the U-18 team in 2017.
The U-23 Women’s National Team will head to Sweden on June 19 to compete in the Women’s U-23 Three-Nations Tournament. On June 25, the team will take on the Indian women’s national team and, on June 28, the Swedish women’s national team. Australia was originally slated to play in the tournament but withdrew. Originally from Falls Church, Virginia, Heilferty attended Boston University and played three seasons with the Terriers before being drafted by the Spirit with the 19th overall pick in 2021. As a sophomore in 2018, Heilferty earned First Team All-Patriot League honors as well as the Patriot League Tournament MVP award. After having her senior season canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Heilferty opted to turn pro.
About The United States U-23 Women’s National Team
The U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team is a youth soccer team operating as a part of U.S. Soccer. The team’s main purpose is to develop player in preparation for the senior women’s national team. The team competes in the annual Nordic Tournament, the top international competition at the U-23 level. This year’s team will be coached by Jené Baclawski, the former long-time Technical Director of the South Texas Youth Soccer Association and current U.S. Soccer Coach Educator who also heads U.S. Soccer’s Visa SheBelieves Cup MVP selection committee.
