Bradenton, FL (02/26/22) – The Washington Spirit took on the Kansas City Current in their first match of the 2022 NWSL Preseason on Saturday afternoon. The Current took the first scrimmage of the season 6-0.

The scrimmage took place at IMG Academy where both teams have spent time training throughout February. With the international window just finishing this past week, the Spirit were short-handed as most players returned to Washington, D.C. and did not meet the team in Florida.

There were five new faces in the starting lineup today for the Spirit, including former KC Current players Nicole Barnhart and Gaby Vincent. Seven trialists also participated in the match.

The Spirit will return to Washington, D.C. on Sunday and prepare for two upcoming scrimmages before the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup on March 19 in Orlando.

Lineup:
Barnhart (Dossey 45′), Aylmer (Jacobsen 45′), Bailey (Kershner 45′), Brooks (McNally 45′), Goff, Heilferty (Frerker 45′), McKeown (Harding 45′), Rodriguez, Shaw (Elinsky 45′), Shepherd (Brooks 60′), Vincent (Mitchell 45′)
