Leesburg, VA., (08/13/2021) — The Washington Spirit are set to play their fourteenth match of the 2021 regular season against the Houston Dash on Friday, August 13 at 8:30 p.m. ET at BBVA Stadium. The game can be live-streamed on the NWSL’s Twitch channel for domestic and international fans.

Here are some interesting stats to take note of ahead of Friday’s meeting:

2 – Washington Players Named to July Team of the Month

For the month of July, the Spirit were represented by two different players — Andi Sullivan and Ashley Hatch —  on the NWSL’s Team of the Month. Only three other teams within the league had two or more players who made this past month’s top 11. Hatch headlined the Team of the Month by earning July Player of the Month after leading the league with six goals this season and ten shots just this month. Sullivan continues to prove her dominance in the center of the pitch, having made three key assists against the North Carolina Courage and NJ/NY Gotham FC. The midfielder has played every minute of every match in July and has a total of 1,040 minutes this regular season.

3 – Months Since the Spirit Faced off Against the Dash

It has been roughly three months since Washington and Houston initially met this season. The two squads have only one meeting to date on May 26, which was the Spirit’s third league fixture. The match ended with a 2-1 triumph over the Dash as Hatch and Ashley Sanchez ended up on the scoresheet. With it being past the season’s halfway mark, Washington and Houston currently sit neck and neck in the table with the Spirit in 7th and the Dash in 8th. Friday’s outing could help either team move up in the standings.

79.5 – Percent Success Rate of Team’s Total Passes

This year, the Spirit has a 79.5% success rate in total passes made, completing 4,515 passes out of 5,679. Gotham FC is the only other team in the league to have surpassed this success rate, having completed 81.2% of their passes. Compared to the Houston Dash, who hold a 75.1% success rate, Washington has displayed better pass distribution abilities this season.

88.9 – Completed Tackle Percentage for Houston’s Katie Naughton

Dash defender Katie Naughton is the only player from her team who was named to the July Team of the Month. Earning this honor for a second time, the 27-year-old has completed 87% of her passes and roughly more than 88% of her tackles in July. Naughton is undoubtedly a rock for Houston’s backline and an obstacle for attackers.
