Leesburg, VA., (06/29/21) – Sweden Women’s National Team Head Coach Peter Gerhardsson has named Spirit midfielder Julia Roddar as an alternate to the team’s Olympic roster. Sweden, the 5th-ranked team in the world, will play in Group G alongside the United States, Australia and New Zealand. 

Sweden will face the USWNT, the #1 ranked team in the world, on Wednesday, July 21, in Tokyo, Japan (5:30 p.m. JST/4:30 a.m. EST). Their second match will be played on Saturday, July 24, against Australia, ranked 9th, in Saitama (5:30 p.m. JST/4:30 a.m. EST). The final fixture of the group stage is on Tuesday, July 27 against 23rd-ranked New Zealand in Rifu (5:00 p.m. JST/4:00 a.m. EST).

Roddar has nine caps for the senior national team. Most recently, she appeared during a June friendly against Australia in a tune-up for the Olympics, playing the full 90 at left back. She joined the national team at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France and has been on several team sheets for recent European qualification games. She also appeared at the U-19 and U-17 levels, where she featured in 30 matches and recorded five goals.
