Leesburg, VA, (04/30/2021) – As a professional soccer franchise in the nation’s capital, the Washington Spirit is committed to making an impact on those around us. Since driving change is a collaborative effort, we’ve partnered with a number of incredible organizations to fully serve those in the community.

Now that we’ve introduced you to our community partners, we want to share with you some organizations that are close to the hearts of our friends at the Jameson. Today, our community spotlight will feature Lucky Dog Rescue.

Lucky Dog Rescue is based in Arlington, Virginia and is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization that rescues homeless animals in our area, saves them from euthanization and helps find them their forever homes. Most of the animals come from high-kill shelters in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and Puerto Rico. They are able to work with shelters in low-income and rural communities to help with the overcrowding of these facilities by finding families to adopt these animals.

While the mission of Lucky Dog Rescue is simple, the impact they have is so much more: “They are not just a rescue, they educate the community and all pet parents on responsible pet parenting, including the importance of spay/neuter, obedience training, and good nutrition,” said Marisa Kronenberg, Content Director at Cortex Creative and the Jameson. “In 2020 alone, they rescued 3,283 animals and arranged 3,344 adoptions. They are truly our hometown heroes.”

The Jameson and Lucky Dog Rescue have a special connection as the property prides itself on being pet-friendly. Many dogs that live on the property are rescues including George, the regional property manager, whose dog was adopted through Lucky Dog.

There are many ways fans can get involved with Lucky Dog Rescue. Those range from volunteering and donating to fostering or adopting. From helping prepare for the arrival of the animals to adoption events to helping with the transportation of animals, there are plenty of ways to volunteer and every step along the way is made possible through the work of volunteers.
