Boyds, Md., (3/24/20) – The Washington Spirit had three players participate in the Australian W-League over the 2019-2020 season, with Aubrey Bledsoe, Crystal Thomas and Sam Staab joining Sydney FC, Perth Glory FC and the Western Sydney Wanderers, respectively. 

We broke down some of the key facts and trivia from the Spirit squad’s time abroad this season. 

60 – Saves made by Aubrey Bledsoe

The 60 saves made by Bledsoe was good for second-most in the W-League. Bledsoe was stopping shots at an 81% rate en route to keeping eight shutouts over 12 appearances. 

3 – Sam Staab’s Team of the Week wins

Staab was a rock down under last season. Staab’s astute defensive play was acclaimed during the regular season, as she picked up three Team of the Week nominations. Staab was named to the Team of the Week in Round 1, Round 2 and Round 7. 

5 – Crystal Thomas goal contributions

Thomas got off to a late start in the W-League but wasted no time contributing to the Perth Glory attack. Thomas scored two goals and assisted three in 10 appearances for Perth, averaging a goal contribution every 157 minutes.

2 – Consecutive W-League Grand Finals for Aubrey Bledsoe

Bledsoe is no stranger to the largest stage in the W-League, the Grand Final match. Bledsoe defeated the Melbourne Victory 1-0 in the semi-finals to reach her second consecutive Grand Final. Bledsoe won her first Grand Final against Sam Kerr and the Perth Glory in 2019, but was edged out by Melbourne City 1-0 in 2020.
