Houston, TX., (1/28/20) – Washington Spirit midfielder Rose Lavelle took her place in the United States Women’s National Team’s starting XI as they downed Haiti by a score of 4-0 on a rainy Tuesday night at BBVA Stadium in Houston, Texas.
Lavelle earned her 39th career cap and her 32nd start with the USWNT, playing on the right side of a midfield three with Sam Mewis and Julie Ertz. Lavelle’s best scoring opportunity came in the 69th minute when she hit a powerful strike on target that was saved by the Haitian keeper. The midfielder was substituted off shortly after in the 71st minute of action for Lindsay Horan.
The US got off to a strong start, finding the back of the net just 78 seconds after the starting whistle as Lynn Williams found Christen Press at the far post to make it 1-0. The US would enter halftime on top just 1-0, but extended their lead in the 67th, 73rd and 93rd minute, eventually winning 3-0.
The US will continue its Olympic Qualifying on Friday, January 31 when they take on Panama. Group A play will wrap up for the USWNT on Monday, February 3 as they face Costa Rica.
