The Washington Spirit won their second straight game Saturday, Oct. 5 with an impressive 3-0 performance over the Orlando Pride. All three of the Spirit’s goals in their lopsided victory were nominated for the NWSL Goal of the Week award.

Spirit forward Ashley Hatch wasted no time by taking control of the game in the 5th minute. On a counterattack, Hatch dribbled the ball all the way from midfield down to the right side of the box. Hatch made a cutback in the right corner of the box, then took a shot with her left foot that rocketed past the goalkeeper.

Forward Chrystal Thomas scored in her second consecutive game against Orlando in the 62th minute. Thomas capitalized off the Spirit’s high-pressure gameplan, by securing a loose ball that was poked away by a Pride defender in the Orlando box. She then dribbled towards the baseline and snuck a far-post shot past the goalkeeper.

Tiffany McCarty, Spirit forward and the club’s first-ever goal scorer, got her first minutes of play during the win over Orlando. McCarty quickly made the most of her opportunity, by scoring her first goal of the season in the 85th minute. Spirit midfielder Bayley Feist laid a pass off to McCarty, who then turned and launched a chip-shot with incredible skill, that left the goalkeeper in her tracks.

Spirit fans can vote for all three goals via the NWSL’s Twitter. Voting closes 3:30 p.m. ET Tuesday.

Washington will travel to Portland to take on the Thorns on Saturday, Oct. 12. The match will be streaming online on Monumental Sports and will be televised on NBC Sports Washington.
