Boyds, Md., (9/5/19) Washington Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe was named to the August NWSL Team of the Month. The NWSL Team of the Month is an award given to the best individual players at each position, as voted on by the NWSL Media Association.

The selection is Bledsoe’s third of the year and fourth of her career, as she made the team in May and June earlier this season as well as April of 2018. 

The sure-handed keeper has started every minute of every game for the Spirit this season and has recorded 64 saves (2nd best in the NWSL), 7 clean sheets, (2nd best in the NWSL), and 1.06 goals scored against (3rd best in the NWSL). 

In the month of August, Bledsoe made 13 saves and averaged 49 touches per game. Bledsoe has developed a reputation as a brick wall in the eyes of opposing attackers due to her incredible saves, including this save that earned Bledsoe 19 Save of the Week nomination preserving the Spirit’s 2-1 win over Orlando.


Bledsoe also made another game-saving stop in the 70th minute when Pride defender Ali Krieger crossed the ball directly in front of the net to an unmarked Rachel Hill.

Bledsoe and the Spirit will return to Audi Field in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 14, as they take on Reign FC. Kickoff is set at 7:30 p.m. ET. Spirit fans can stream the game on NBC Sports Washington and Monumental Sports Network.
