Boyds, MD (6/28/2019) – The Washington Spirit will host the reigning champion North Carolina Courage this weekend at the Maryland SoccerPlex. [TICKETS]

Last Saturday, Washington hosted the Houston Dash and played to a 0-0 draw. It was the Spirit’s second consecutive draw, continuing their franchise-record unbeaten streak to seven games.

The Courage are one of two remaining teams in the NWSL that the Spirit haven’t yet matched-up against. For the last three seasons, NC has been a league powerhouse, winning the treble last season.

Since World Cup call-ups, the Courage have pulled a perfect split with a 1-1-1 record.

One of the biggest items to watch this week is players returning from the World Cup. The Courage have three players from eliminated squads in Brazilian midfielder Debinha, Canadian keeper Stephanie Labbe, and New Zealander Abby Erceg.

Meanwhile, for the Spirit, forward Cheyna Matthews, midfielder Chloe Logarzo, and defender Amy Harrison have returned to the SoccerPlex after their teams were eliminated.

The Spirit have now held onto first place in the NWSL table for almost a month. They now hold the best overall goal differential in the league (+8) and the best home goal differential in the league (+6). Home field advantage will be critical to holding first place with surging Utah and Portland one and two points behind, respectively.

Recently Spirit defender McKenzie Berryhill praised the Spirit Squadron when discussing home-field advantage: “Our squadron is just so relentless. They’re always there, they always show up, they always tie us in to whatever they are doing. They’re just so supportive it’s unreal.”

The Spirit are pleased to welcome Denison’s Brewery and Senor Tequila’s to our vendors list for Teacher’s Appreciation Night. Denizens, a local Montgomery County brewery, will provide their locally brewed Ales, Lagers and Barrel-Aged and Belgian Style beers. Senor Tequila is a local Mexican-themed chain with four locations around the DMV.

The Spirit are hosting their first ever Teacher’s Appreciation Night this Saturday. Educators can get $10 tickets if they call the Washington Spirit ticket office at 301-591-0927, show their school ID’s at the gate, or use the codes “teach10” or “prof10” at our online ticket store.

Kickoff at the Maryland SoccerPlex is set for 7:00 p.m. ET, with Gate D and the Fan Zone opening at 5:30 p.m. ET for all ticket-holding fans. [TICKETS]
