Boyds, Md. (6/14/19) – The Washington Spirit travel to Tacoma, Washington for an early season rematch with Reign FC at Cheney Stadium on June 15. Kickoff is set for 10:00 p.m. ET

It has been two weeks since the Spirit defeated Utah Royals FC 2-0 to claim sole possession of first place in the NWSL. The Spirit has not lost a game in 55 days or conceded a goal in 203 minutes of play.

This match represents a chance for the Spirit to solidify their hold on first place. If either Portland or Utah loses and the Spirit win they further isolate themselves at the top of the table. A Reign FC win would likely move them up in the standings one to three spots.

The Spirit and Reign FC clashed earlier this season with the result being a 0-0 draw. Draws have become a recurring theme for Reign who have a league-high four draws already this young season.

Reign FC is known for playing stingy defense and currently ranks third in the league in goals against having only allowed eight so far. Offensively the Reign have struggled to score managing only scored seven goals this season which ranks in the bottom third of the league.

One of the biggest factors this match will be World Cup call-ups. Reign FC is one of the teams that have been hit the hardest by World Cup absences with eight players departed headlined by superstar forward Megan Rapinoe. Reign is also missing keeper Lydia Williams, defenders Steph Catley, and Celia Jiménez Delgado, midfielders Elise Kellond-Knight, Rumi Utsugi, and Allie Long and forward Jodie Taylor.

The game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Washington in addition to streaming on Monumental Sports Network.
