Boyds, Md. (5/10/19) – The Washington Spirit are excited to announce that goalkeeper coach Ian McCaldon will be playing in the 7th annual Congressional Soccer Match at Audi Field on May 21.

Spirit head coach Richie Burke and members of the Spirit pro team will be attending the match to not only cheer on McCaldon but to promote the growth of women’s soccer in the DMV area and around the country with some of the largest names in soccer and members of the U.S. Congress.

The Congressional Match is a family-friendly charity event featuring Members of Congress, international embassies and former professional soccer players. Presented by the U.S. Soccer Foundation and the Congressional Soccer Caucus, is played every year to encourage legislation, activities and events that promote soccer and tackle the issues that affect the greater soccer community in America.

The Caucus also encourages healthy and active lifestyles among America’s youth. The U.S. Soccer Foundation serves as the public advocacy arm for soccer and provides information and support for the Caucus.

During halftime of last year’s Congressional Match, local DC SCORES “Soccer for Success” participants took the pitch for a scrimmage, coached by Washington Spirit and D.C. United players.
