Boyds, MD (December 4, 2017) – The Washington Spirit will host the North Carolina Courage in a 2018 National Women’s Soccer League preseason match at the historic City Stadium in Richmond, Virginia on Saturday, March 17.

The first-ever NWSL game played in the city of Richmond, which will be hosted in partnership with the Richmond Kickers of the United Soccer League and the Richmond Strikers, will kick-off at 7:00 p.m. ET.

The match will also serve as the marquee game during the Richmond Strikers’ prestigious Jefferson Cup Girls Weekend, host to more than 5,000 players and 350 participating youth teams. Following a 72-hour private pre-sale for Richmond Kickers Season Ticket Holders, general admission tickets for $20 (VIP tickets – $35) will go on sale on Friday, December 8 at 9:00 a.m. at RichmondKickers.com. The game will be included in Washington Spirit season ticket holder packages.

As Washington and North Carolina make their preparations for the NWSL regular season, fans in Richmond will have the opportunity to watch some of the best female players in the world, including multiple U.S. Women’s National Team members and other international stars, compete in their own backyard.

Washington boasts one of the league’s most exciting young rosters, including 2017 NWSL Rookie of the Year Finalist and U.S. international forward Mallory Pugh, and 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medalists Shelina Zadorksy and Stephanie Labbé. The Courage captured the 2017 NWSL Shield during their first season in North Carolina, led by a talented roster highlighted by NWSL Best XI selections Abby Dahlkemper, Sam Mewis and McCall Zerboni. All players are scheduled to appear.

City Stadium is a 22,600-seat venue which has been a staple of Virginia’s capital city since 1929. The three-time USL Cup, three-time USL regular season and one-time Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup champion Richmond Kickers have called the stadium home since 1995.
