BOYDS, MD. (Jan. 11, 2014) – Washington Spirit forward Tiffany McCarty and defender Kika Toulouse were selected during yesterday’s expansion draft by the Houston Dash.

During the Spirit’s first season, McCarty, 23, played in 21 matches and started in 12, scoring two goals. McCarty was selected second overall during the expansion draft. Defender Toulouse, 24, played in 16 matches and started in nine, recording a total of 891 minutes.

“We are extremely disappointed to be losing two of our players and two amazing people. Tiffany and Kika both contributed massively in 2013 and we thank them for everything they have done for the club”, general manager and coach Mark Parsons said. Houston will be an exciting opportunity for them both and we know they will go on to be very successful and wish them all the very best,”.

The league’s second annual college draft will consist of a total of 36 selections made over four rounds, the order for which was originally set by reverse finish at the end of the 2013 NWSL regular season.
As the lone expansion club to join the NWSL this season, the Houston Dash will have the second pick in the first-round as well as the first pick in the second, third and fourth-rounds of the College Draft. For the complete College Draft order, click here.
