Dear Spirit Investors,
Following a hard-fought draw at home this past weekend against the Utah Royals, the Spirit now sit at 5-1-3 with 16 points—tied in points with Orlando and Portland, but currently in 5th place based on goal differential. We also remain proud to be just the second team in league history to start a season 4-0-0 on the road.
The match saw the return of Hal Hershfelt and Casey Krueger to action, with Casey delivering the equalizer in extra time to secure the draw. It also marked our 11th game in the last two seasons with over 15,000 fans in attendance—an incredible testament to the growing support for the Spirit and women’s soccer in D.C.
From Croix Bethune’s return to the starting lineup and goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury being named to the NWSL’s Best XI for April, momentum is building both on and off the pitch. You can read more in the updates below. It’s been great to see so many of you at our home matches this year—we hope to welcome even more of you to Audi Field in the weeks ahead.
Next up: we’re on the road tonight to face Seattle Reign, with kickoff at 10 p.m. ET on Prime Video. With a win, we will tie the 2018 North Carolina Courage for the best road start to an NWSL regular season.
Let’s go Spirit,
Kim Stone
