Spirit reaches historic mark for first time in club history, continues season of historic success on and off the pitch

Washington, D.C. (09/18/2024) – The Washington Spirit eclipsed the 150,000-mark in this year’s total regular season home attendance during Sunday’s match against the Houston Dash, the club announced today. Through just 11 regular season home matches in 2024, the Spirit has reached this milestone for the first time in club history and becomes just the fourth club in league history and first non-West Coast club to do so.

In the club’s second season calling Audi Field home, the Spirit continues its landmark year of success both on and off the pitch. The Spirit has set a host of new attendance records alongside its best regular season on-field performance in club history:

  • 19,897: highest single match attendance in club history (June 15 vs San Diego)
  • 11,734: highest home opener attendance in club history (March 23 vs Bay FC)
  • 52,744: highest three-match attendance in club history (June 15, June 29, August 25)
  • 15,062: highest international friendly attendance in NWSL history (August 18 vs Arsenal)
  • Ten of top 15 single match attendances in club history have occurred in 2024

Washington Spirit home matches have grown into can’t-miss entertainment events in the nation’s capital. Pre-match features outside the stadium have included a local small business market, concerts from local cover bands and appearances by popular pop-up bars while those inside the stadium are even more robust. With performances by artists ranging from local go-go bands to fan-favorite drag queens and kings, the Spirit Stage on the Audi Field concourse has been a welcome feature of DC matchdays.

As the Spirit embarks on a three-match away stretch, it could return home next month having clinched a top four seed and at least one home playoff match. The Spirit will take the field at home next on Sunday, October 13 against Racing Louisville FC. Kicking off at 5 p.m. EDT at Audi Field, the match will feature a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Tickets are available at WashingtonSpirit.com/tickets.
