USWNT set to face Japan in semifinal match on Saturday, April 6
Washington, D.C. (03/26/2024) – Spirit defender Casey Krueger and forward Trinity Rodman have been called up to compete for the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) at this year’s SheBelieves Cup, U.S. Soccer announced today. The U.S. will face Japan in the first semifinal match of the tournament while Brazil and Canada will square off in the second semifinal, both kicking off at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, April 6. The tournament’s final and third place match will take place at Columbus, Ohio’s Lower.com Field on Tuesday, April 9.
A rising star for the USWNT, Rodman became the only player to appear in all 18 USWNT matches in 2023. In those matches, she made 11 starts, scored five goals and added five assists, logging a brace in a friendly versus Wales. Most recently, Rodman competed for the U.S. in the inaugural Concacaf W Gold Cup, appearing in all six matches and helping the side to a first-place finish. Rodman also earned a call-up for her first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup last summer, where she started three of four matches played by the USWNT, totaling seven shots in those games. In her senior national team career, Rodman has tallied 34 appearances, tallying seven goals and six assists.
Krueger receives her fifth consecutive call-up for the USWNT. In 2023, Krueger was given the nod during September, October and November international competition windows while also earning a call-up for this year’s Concacaf W Gold Cup. In that span, she appeared in eight matches. The bronze medalist in the 2021 Olympic Games has featured on USWNT rosters since 2016. In her career, Krueger has 45 international caps and five assists.
This year’s SheBelieves Cup will be the ninth edition of the annual tournament with the United States finishing in first place in six of the first eight competitions. France (2017) and England (2019) are the tournament’s only other winners. Brazil and Japan will be appearing in each federation’s fourth SheBelieves Cup this year while Canada will make its third appearance.
