Hatch recognized as one of the three best forwards in the NWSL during July competition 

Washington, D.C. (08/02/2023) – Washington Spirit forward Ashley Hatch has been named to the Best XI of the Month, presented by Mastercard, for the month of July, the NWSL announced today. Hatch also earned Player of the Week honors following a stellar performance in last Friday night’s match when she tallied a brace and an assist in a UKG NWSL Challenge Cup win over NJ/NY Gotham FC. 

 

Hatch earns her fifth Best XI of the Month honor – previously, she was named to the NWSL’s top team for June 2017, May 2019, July 2021 and October 2021. Hatch was also named the league’s Player of the Month for July 2021. She joins Kansas City Current’s Kristen Hamilton and NJ/NY Gotham FC’s Midge Purce in the attacking third of the latest Best XI. 

 

As one of the Spirit’s most lethal offensive threats, Hatch has led the team to 31 goals for through 20 total matches in 2023, good for third-most in the NWSL this season (all competitions). Hatch leads the Spirit in the following categories in 2023: goals (10), assists (3) and shots on goal (25) across all competitions. She is also tied with North Carolina’s Kerolin for the second-most goals in the league this regular season at eight. 

 

Hatch has played over 1,400 minutes for the Spirit across all competitions in 2023, tallying tallied ten goals and three assists. Hatch earned the Golden Boot in 2021 as the league’s top goal-scorer en route to helping the Spirit to its first NWSL title as well as Rookie of the Year honors in 2018 as the league’s most outstanding first-year player. 

 
The NWSL Best XI of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis, and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent.
