The USWNT star will focus her efforts with Leveling the Playing Field in the DMV
Washington, D.C., (07/11/2022) – Forward Ashley Hatch will lead the Washington Spirit’s partnership with Leveling the Playing Field (LPF) as part of the Nationwide Community Impact Program, the NWSL announced today.
As an ambassador for the program, Hatch will spearhead the Spirit’s efforts to promote and advance Leveling the Playing Field’s various community service projects. Additionally, the Spirit will host an appreciation night for Leveling the Playing Field on Saturday, September 10 when the club hosts San Diego Wave FC at Audi Field on CBS.
Founded in 2013, LPF aims to ensure every child in the DMV has access to participation in sports. The organization focuses on eliminating barriers to entry by redistributing sports equipment and expanding recreational opportunities in under-resourced communities. Earlier this year, the Spirit and LPF joined forces to form the Washington Coalition of Women’s Professional Sports (WCWPS), a joint organization that advocates for aspiring female athletes in the greater DC area. The coalition’s first initiative was a sports bra drive to promote continued sport participation by providing young women in the region with the necessary sporting equipment.
“Activism in and around the community is a foundational component of the NWSL, led by our exemplary players, fans, staff and stakeholders,” said NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman. “We saw incredible participation and excitement around last year’s Nationwide Community Impact Program from all of our clubs and fans, and we’re excited to build on that this season.”
Ambassadors from each of the league’s 11 other clubs will also work with local community organizations. At the conclusion of the 2022 season, the program will culminate with the Nationwide Community Impact Award, where one club and its partner will be recognized for their exemplary commitment off the field at a postseason ceremony. Their efforts will be honored during the 2022 NWSL Championship weekend in October, with the winning community partner receiving a $25,000 donation from Nationwide to further their organization’s efforts. In addition, each participating community partner will receive a $5,000 grant.
The Washington Spirit will host the Kansas City Current on Sunday, July 10 Segra Field in Leesburg, Virginia. Following the match, the Spirit will return to Audi Field to host the Orlando Pride on Sunday, July 17 in the club’s final match before returning its seven USWNT players.
For July 17’s match, the Spirit is offering several special ticket packages.
