Leesburg, VA., (07/30/21) – The Washington Spirit Advance Development Program welcomed the Bermuda National Team to Segra Field on Monday, July 26 for a friendly match. The ADP squad, made up of 17 college players from nine different schools and one youth player, took down Bermuda 8-2.

Spirit President of Sporting Operations and Chief Soccer Officer Larry R. Best had this to say about the Advance Development Program: “As part of our market scouting and identification program, we’re extremely proud of the youth and college coaches for all the development work they have done and are doing with their respective players. Our role as part of the Advanced Development Program is to provide continued development opportunities by bringing these players into an advanced training or match environment that allows for personal growth from an educational standpoint both on and off the field of play.”

The Bermuda National Team came to the Washington, D.C. area as part of a week-long training trip in preparation for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. While in town, the team faced off with the Spirit’s ADP squad on Monday and Coppermine United Women’s Team from the United Women’s Soccer League 2 on Wednesday. This allowed for a competitive match at a time of the year that is often reserved for college players to ramp up their training prior to preseason.

Bermuda Women’s National Team Head Coach Naquita Dill-Robinson had this to say about the event: “Thank you, first of all, to the Washington Spirit for hosting us and for giving us the opportunity to bring our girls out. We haven’t had any international football in a while because of the pandemic, so this was a very good match for us to see where we are, where we need to be, and what we need to work on. The majority of our players are under seventeen and our goalkeepers have just come out of the under fifteen national team. So, this was fantastic. We wish we could play more games but, you know, time doesn’t allow that.

Best had this to say about the match: “I would like to thank the Bermuda Women’s National Team for contacting us on the opportunity to play a match with our Advanced Development Program. Anytime you can play an international match is an incredible experience for our players and the club, so we were excited to host this match.”
