Leesburg, VA., (06/29/21) – As a continuation of the Washington Spirit Market Training Program for the Advanced Player Development and Education, the Spirit held a classroom and on-field session for the top college players in the market.

During the classroom portion, the ADP participants had the opportunity to connect with three rookies from the Spirit’s senior team, Mariana Speckmaier, Anna Heliferty and Karina Rodriguez. The rookies discussed their transition from college to the professional game. The participants also learned firsthand from the technical staff. Head Coach Richie Burke talked about the mental side of the game, while Technical Staff Coach Carrie Kevton broke down the Spirit’s desired style of play. The on-field session, which was explained prior in the classroom portion, focused on building play out of the back.

There were 23 players in attendance representing 21 different schools. Coaches from various colleges that participate in the Alliance Partnership Program were also in attendance to observe a professional training environment.

Kveton had this to say about the session: “At our first ADP session of the year it was exciting to see the region’s talent and it’s important for us, at Washington Spirit, to track and keep tabs on these young collegiate players. They could potentially be a future draft pick for us. The players also benefit from the sessions so they can train the “Washington Spirit way” and see if our style of play and principles are also a good fit for them. It was great to see everyone out at the session and we are already looking forward to the next one in July.”
