Leesburg, VA., (10/5/20) – The Washington Spirit, along with partners 50 East Remodeling and Madhaunter’s Madhouse, have donated the Spirit’s SEGRA Field playground to Mobile Hope Loudoun, a local non-profit organization that supports homeless youth in the Loudoun area.

Established in 2011, Mobile Hope improves the lives of young people, 24 years of age or younger, who are precariously housed or homeless in Loudoun County. Mobile Hope works to create pathways for this overlooked and often unacknowledged population to have access to housing solutions, daily essentials and life-changing support.

We are thrilled to accept this generous donation from the Washington Spirit,” said Mobile Hope CEO & Founder, Donna Fortier. “This playground will provide countless smiles, physical activity and hours of entertainment for the kids we serve. Thank you for your commitment to Mobile Hope and the broader community, we are truly grateful.”

The playground’s assembly and dedication was inspired by the “NWSL Playground” at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah, which caught the attention of fans, players and even NWSL Commissioner Lisa Baird during the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup. The viral NWSLplayground Twitter account, always urging players to celebrate goals by sliding down the playground slide, was one of the highlights of the Challenge Cup through the preliminary and quarterfinal stages of the tournament.

Constructed by 50 East Remodeling and Madhaunters Madhouse, the playground was featured at SEGRA Field for the Spirit’s match against Sky Blue FC on September 5 which was broadcast live on CBS and CBS All Access before being donated to Mobile Hope.

Jeff Keiling of 50 East Remodeling said this on the playground: “As a long-time Loudoun County resident and business owner, I am are thrilled to see what the Spirit have done in terms of community engagement and commitment. We are happy to be a part of the #SpiritFam and make a contribution to the community. Both our Haunted Attraction and Remodeling company appreciate the opportunity to give back.”

Spirit Chief Growth Officer Gretchen Hamm said this on the collaboration: “The Spirit love nothing more than to make connections that benefit our community. As we approached the first-ever women’s professional soccer games to be played at Segra Field, we wanted to do something to contribute to our new home.”

“The playground idea was a terrific spin-off of the Challenge Cup playground, which garnered great fan engagement. The locally and veteran-owned company helped provide the refurbished, beautiful playground that will live on in the spirit of community at Mobile Hope. Win-win.”
