Carson, CA., (2/9/20) – Washington Spirit midfielder Rose Lavelle was in the United States Women’s National Team’s final starting XI of the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament as they beat Canada 3-0 at Dignity Health Sports Arena in Carson, California.
Lavelle put in 63 minutes of work on the right side of the midfield. In the midfielder’s 63 minutes of action, Lavelle completed 11 passes and registered a shot on target. Throughout the tournament, Lavelle scored two goals and started in four of the US’ five games.
It was a quiet first half for both teams with neither team breaking the deadlock before halftime. The USWNT began the second half on the front foot as forward Lynn Williams opened the scoring in the 60th minute with a sharply-hit goal from just inside the box into the top right corner. Just 11 minutes later, Lindsey Horan doubled the lead off a cross from Sam Mewis which was headed on by Williams. In the 86th minute, Williams played Megan Rapinoe in behind the backline of Canada to put the US up 3-0.
Having swept through Group A play with a 3-0-0 record and a plus-18 goal difference, the USA continued to show its depth as manager Vlatko Andonovski made six changes to the starting XI from the semi-final on Friday.
The USWNT will be off for the rest of February before returning to action against England in the SheBelieves Cup on March 5.
