Boyds Md., (6/21/19) – The Spirit are hosting their first ever Pride Night to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community on June 22 against the Houston Dash. The Spirit will be having several special events and features exclusive to Pride Night, from guest vendors to exclusive merchandise and more. [TICKETS]
The Spirit will be giving away Spirit-themed rainbow wristbands to the first 500 fans through the gates at the Maryland SoccerPlex. As always, the Fan Zone and Gate D will open an hour and a half before kickoff at 5:30 p.m. ET.
The Spirit will also be selling exclusive pride merchandise in partnership with Rockville Soccer. Items that will be sold include t-shirts, stickers, and magnets with the “Spirit Pride” logo.
Several areas of the Maryland of the SoccerPlex will be painted in rainbow fashion to amplify the pride atmosphere. These areas will include, the player walkout tunnel, Spirit Hill and portions of the concourse surrounding the field. Spirit mascot PK will also be wearing pride gear to celebrate Pride Month.
The Spirit are also excited to introduce several new food and beverage vendors for Pride Night. New vendors include: Denizen’s Brewery, Hershey’s Ice Cream, Dickey’s BBQ, Southern Bobby-Q, Senor Tequila’s, District Falafel, Poke DOJO and more! To create a smoother experience for our fans, ID’s can now be checked at the gate for alcohol purchases.
Finally, Spirit legend Joanna Lohman will be honored for her contributions to the team and the community at halftime. Lohman is the first player to ever have her jersey number retired for the Spirit.
Lohman will speak at halftime about her time with the Spirit and will be presented a special jersey. In addition, a special video presentation about her career and work with the Spirit will be shown to the SoccerPlex crowd.
Spirit fans will get the chance to meet Lohman from the 15th to the 30th minute during the game as she will signing autographs in the white tent on the Gate H side of Plex closest to the flagpoles. Fans will also have the opportunity to leave their well-wishes on the FOREVER15 banner hanging on the same tent throughout the game.Kickoff at the Maryland SoccerPlex is set for 7:00 p.m. ET, with Gate D and the Fan Zone opening at 5:30 p.m. ET for all ticket-holding fans.
