Boyds, Md. (5/22/19) – Washington Spirit players Andi Sullivan, Aubrey Bledsoe, Tori Huster, Meggie Dougherty Howard, Megan Crosson, Paige Nielsen, and Sam Staab appeared at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday afternoon for the 7th annual Congressional Soccer Match, hosted by the U.S. Soccer Foundation.

The event featured various Congressional members and staff in a friendly 11v11 bipartisan showdown of Republicans versus Democrats, showcasing the ability of soccer to unite and positively impact a diverse range of people.

The Congressional Soccer Match, part of the Congressional Soccer Caucus, strives to create positive social change through soccer while supporting programs which help children in underserved communities embrace active and healthy lifestyles.

The Spirit players spent part of the afternoon engaging with and signing autographs with fans prior to kickoff. During halftime of the Congressional Match, the players assumed coaching roles and teamed up youth participants from DC Scores program in a fun-filled, energetic halftime mini-game.

Also a part of the fun was the Spirit’s new official mascot PK, who made her first public appearance outside of the Maryland SoccerPlex to hang out and take pictures with the DC Scores kids at the game.

Tuesday’s gathering also featured notable guest players such as former USMNT stars Charlie Davies, Brian McBride and Cobi Jones, as well as a guest appearance by North Carolina Courage and former USWNT midfielder Heather O’Reilly.
