Boyds, Md. (5/14/19) – Washington Spirit forward Cheyna Matthews has been nominated for the NWSL’s week five Goal of the Week for her effort against Sky Blue FC last Saturday at Yurcak Field.
Matthews’ was on the receiving end of a long ball from Spirit defender Sam Staab when she chipped the ball over a Sky Blue defender with a cooly-taken touch to create space inside the box. Matthews cut around the keeper DiDi Haracic and took a quick shot which was deflected back to her feet. Matthews cut towards the touchline and sent her next attempt into the roof of the net at the near post, finishing coolly from an extremely tight angle with defenders closing in.
