Boyds, Md. (March 2, 2019) – Washington Spirit midfielder Rose Lavelle and forward Mallory Pugh earned spots in Jills Ellis’ starting lineup Saturday as the U.S. Women’s National Team played England to a 2-2 draw in their second match of the 2019 SheBelieves Cup.
On a night where the USA players wore the names of iconic women on the backs of their jerseys, Lavelle (J.K. Rowling) and Pugh (Beyonce) both played active roles in a hard-fought match with a raucous crowd of 22,125 fans on hand at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn.
Pugh and Lavelle were both a part of the midfield in the USA’s new-look 3-4-3 formation, before subbing off in the 55th and 64th minutes, respectively.
Forward Megan Rapinoe (33’) and Tobin Heath (67’) provided the scoring for the USA, while Steph Houghton (36’) and Nikita Parris (52’) found the net for England. [Full Recap]
