Cary, NC – October 7, 2018: The USWNT defeated Panama 5-0 during the group stage of the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Boyds, Md. – Washington Spirit forward Mallory Pugh earned a spot in the starting lineup and midfielder Rose Lavelle tallied an assist as the U.S. Women’s National Team downed Panama 5-0 in dominant fashion on Sunday in their second group match at the Concacaf Women’s Championship.

Pugh and Lavelle both played key roles in setting up the USA’s only score of the second half, which came in the 48th minute as Carli Lloyd finished off a hat trick. Pugh was taken down from behind just outside the penalty on a dangerous run on the right side, setting up a free kick service opportunity for the USA.

Lavelle, who subbed in for Julie Ertz to begin the second half, took the free kick, sending a perfect bending cross to the far post, where the crashing Lloyd headed home from close range. It was the USA’s third set play goal of the match and third header.

Lavelle earned her 15th career cap in the match, and recorded her second career assist for the U.S. WNT. The 23-year-0ld has racked up three goals and two assists through her first 15 international appearances.

Pugh notched her 39th cap at the senior level, playing the full 90 minutes in a starting role on Sunday evening. Despite not getting in on the scoring, the 20-year-old attacker was active throughout the match, helping set up several scoring opportunities for the top-ranked U.S. side.
