The Western Sydney Wanderers did not get off to a good start against Melbourne Victory as the team went down via an own goal in the second minute on Sunday, December 11. It took until the 61st minute for the Wanderers to find the equalizer, but Melbourne went ahead again in the 84th and looked to be on their way to their first win of the season. Enter Katie Stengel‘s stoppage time equalizer to earn the 2-2 draw in dramatic fashion. (Match Report)

Next weekend, the Wanderers will take on the defending champions Melbourne City FC a week after Melbourne City recorded its first loss in club history in its second season as a team.

U.S. Soccer announced the winners for Female Player of the Year and Young Female Player of the Year yesterday. In the Female Player of the Year category, Crystal Dunn came in second place to Portland Thorns’s Tobin Heath, with Dunn receiving 34% of the vote to Heath’s 40%. The Spirit forward was one of just two players to play every match for the USWNT in 2016.

17-year-old Ashley Sanchez took home the Young Female Player of the Year award. The Spirit Collegiate Academy’s Kaleigh Riehl and Emily Ogle were also nominated for the prestigious honor after playing pivotal roles on the U-20 Women’s World Cup team. Former Spirit Reserves player Andi Sullivan, who made her debut with the senior U.S. Women’s National Team earlier this year, came in second with 27% of the vote.
